Gloria’s New Steps
In Côte d’Ivoire, Gloria was born with only one leg. The youngest in a big family, she was carried to school on her sister’s back for four years. Then she used crutches, they needed replacing every 3 to 4 months, which was hard for her family.
We met her at age 8 and gave her her first prosthetic legs. But they weren’t the right fit and caused discomfort. Later, she received better custom prosthetics, adjusted as she grew. Today, Gloria walks to school on her own, gets great grades, and is no longer a burden. She is strong, independent, and full of hope for the future.
Amany’s Journey: From Struggle to Strength
Amany’s life changed when he was just one year old. After a tragic accident left him without a leg, he adapted the only way he knew how—by jumping to move around. For years, from infancy to age nine, jumping was his normal. At nine years old, Amany received his first mobility aid—a pair of heavy wooden crutches. Though they gave him more movement, they were difficult and limiting. Still, he used them faithfully for over a decade, never giving up on his determination to live a full life.
When we met Amany in 2021, he was 28 years old. For 16 years, he had carried the weight of wooden crutches—and of being held back by circumstances beyond his control. Through our support, Amany received a custom prosthetic limb. That moment was a turning point. With new mobility came newfound freedom. Amany passed his professional exams. He gained confidence. He found steady employment. Most importantly, he rediscovered his sense of dignity and independence. Amaniy’s story is a powerful reminder of what access, compassion, and opportunity can do. He is not just walking—he is thriving.
